Well our first year of being married has been an amazing one and so we thought we’d do something amazing to celebrate. And what better way to celebrate a first anniversary than at The Fat Duck, voted The Best Restaurant in the World in 2005? Proprietor Heston Blumenthal made his restaurant in the tiny village of Bray a huge success by being a pioneer of "molecular gastronomy", the application of scientific methods to food preparation. The results are such bizarre combinations as snail porridge, sardine on toast sorbet and egg and bacon ice cream.
We stayed in the nearby Monkey Island Hotel, perched on a small island in the middle of the river Thames and apparently named after a monk that once lived there. After a relaxed afternoon we wandered up into the village and enjoyed a drink at The Hind’s Head, also owned by Heston Blumenthal and famous for it’s pub meals, (we’ll have to wait until next time to give them a try). Well it has taken us almost a year to organise but we finally received a DVD containing our wedding photos in glorious high resolution. Despite one or two minor hitches everything went relatively smoothly – it was an amazing day for both of us and hopefully for all of the friends and family who came along to wish us well.
Steve from Cooks Hill Photography in Newcastle did an outstanding job capturing the magic on film (and memory card). You can take a look at some of his handiwork here:

There are also some photos taken by friends and family:
Peter – James’ Dad
Marie-Ann – James’ Cousin
Daniel Buzai – Sarah’s Brother

Finally there’s some shots from our honeymoon:
Boat Trip
Thailand
The high-resolution versions of all of these are also available via our Flickr account here.

Just what the world needs, another blog! This one is as a continuation of the travel diary site that we set up when we first left Australia back in 2003. The idea is pretty much the same – to keep a diary of places that we go and things that we do so that our friends and family can see what we’ve been up to while living the ex-pat life. Enjoy!
