Rather than the usual short stopover in Singapore airport on the way back to London, we’d booked a couple of nights in a hotel so we could spend a full day exploring the place.
Having lived there for a spell a few years back, Lou and Val gave us a few hints as to what we should see and do with our limited time. So after finding our hotel and working out a rough itinerary, we got a good sleep ready for a busy day. Read more…

With Lou’s party over we only had a few more days to enjoy the sunshine at home before it was time to fly back to England. We were in Newcastle for Sunday and so organised to meet some of the Novacastrians for a drink or two at the famous Queen’s Wharf Brewery.
We couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon – the Sun was shining, the beer was icy cold and there was even a band playing out on the wharf. Days like this certainly made it hard to think about getting on a plane and leaving home once more! Read more…

After a week catching up with family and friends, it came time for the real reason we’d flown home – Lou’s 60th Birthday party!
Once more, friends and family gathered at Squid’s Ink in Belmont to celebrate. This was the first time we’d been back since our wedding almost 18 months earlier and again it turned out to be a great venue. Read more…

Not having our own place meant we were without a venue for a get-together with our Central Coast mates. Fortunately Scilla and Glen came through with the goods and agreed to host a BBQ at their new place.
So we invited everyone round and stocked up on food and beer for a BBQ by the pool. Again there were plenty of people coming along that we hadn’t seen since we were last home for the wedding, so we were looking forward to a great night. Read more…

We got in a bit late after our day out fishing with Brendan and Nerys, so we had to hightail it north in the Corolla for dinner at Rebecca and Al’s place.
We made it in reasonable time though and when we got there we were greeted by our gracious hosts, as well as Lara and Andrew who we haven’t seen since they left to live in Thailand a few years back. Read more…

After checking out Brendan and Nerys’ new place in Wyong Brendan offered to take us out on his Dad’s boat for some fishing. The last time either of us had been out fishing was on our honeymoon so how could we refuse?
So a couple of days later we hooked the boat trailer up to the trusty Corolla – the first time it’s towed anything in the 10 years that I’ve owned it! The little car showed it’s age when we went to plug in the trailer lights, only to find that the trailer had a rectangular socket while the Corolla had a round hole! Read more…

It took some careful planning, but for Wednesday night we’d managed to organise a reunion with some of my old work and uni buddies at one of my favourite dining establishments – Kingsley’s Steakhouse and Cigar Lounge. There is surely no finer way to catch up with old friends than over massive steaks, cold beer, fine wine and fat cigars!

We’d had a pretty busy schedule since our arrival in Australia on Good Friday. So after driving back down from Metalstock on Easter Monday we had some time to chill out at Lou and Val’s place
Annette brought her daughter Georgia around to say hello and it was bizarre to see how much she’d grown. She was in a playful mood and seemed to take very kindly to her Aunty Sarah… Read more…

We were lucky enough for our visit home to coincide with Metalstock 2007 – Australia’s premier metal event and now in its third year. The festival runs for 3 days from Good Friday to Easter Sunday and while we didn’t have enough time to spend the whole long weekend there, we drove up on the Sunday afternoon to catch up with our metal mates for a few beers and some rockin’ tunes. After spending the night in Sydney we got on the good old Newcastle and Central Coast line bound for Tuggerah. After the train gets out of the city it winds its way through the beautiful Hawksbury River area – the journey always brings back memories of my days commuting to uni and work before we left Australia.
