Our Last Few Days in Oz…
April 17th, 2007 at 09:07pm James
With Lou’s party over we only had a few more days to enjoy the sunshine at home before it was time to fly back to England. We were in Newcastle for Sunday and so organised to meet some of the Novacastrians for a drink or two at the famous Queen’s Wharf Brewery.
We couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon – the Sun was shining, the beer was icy cold and there was even a band playing out on the wharf. Days like this certainly made it hard to think about getting on a plane and leaving home once more!
Rebecca, Al, Lara and Jessica all made it along and so we sat out on the wharf drinking and chatting the afternoon away. Not much has changed since we were back home – the brewery’s still a great place to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon!

We ended up staying for a few hours, eventually enjoying a beautiful sunset. Finally Lara had to go, (tomorrow would be Monday after all) and so we said farewell as the rest of us headed out for dinner.
After a beer en-route we ended up at Lan’s Vietnamese restaurant in Darby St, an old favourite of Sarah and her friends. After yet another delicious meal we had to say our farewells to Jessica, Rebecca and Al for another year or two. We got in a cab and headed home.
The next day we bid farewell to the Buzais and went back to the coast to visit Jen and young Saxon. This was the first time we’d seen the little guy since he was only a few days old and he’d certainly grown a lot since then!
He was full of beans and very much enjoying The Wiggles movie while we were there, but we managed to get him to sit still long enough to steal a quick photo – next time we meet he’ll probably be twice as big!
And so it came time for our last supper at Dad and Sue’s place. Priscilla, Glenn, Nerys and Brendan all came round, as did family friends Ed and Lorraine who we hadn’t seen since Scilla and Glen’s wedding, which was only a week after ours!
Sue had prepared a magnificent meal and BBQ out on the balcony overlooking the lake was just like old times! Once the cooking was done we sat inside, ate, drank and enjoyed our last chance to chat with everyone before it was time to go. We once more said our goodbyes and then it was off to bed
The next morning all that was left to do was pack our bags and tie up a few loose ends – 18 months of snail mail needed to be sorted through, lest it pile up for another year or two! We farewelled Sue and of course Kelly the dog, before our last trip to the train station with Dad. We said our one last goodbye to him and with that, we were on our way to the airport.
We’d had an amazing time being home again, catching up with all of these people who we’d missed so much. Hopefully it won’t be long until our next visit, but until then there’s plenty more adventures for us back here in Europe. There’s a few more photos of the trip in our Photo Gallery.
