After crossing the channel from Dover to Dunkirk we set the Sat Nav for the small town of Dessel in Belgium, host town of the annual Graspop Metal Meeting. Even with a labouriously slow peak-hour run around the Antwerpen Ring, we made it just in time to load up on food and beer at the supermarket in nearby Mol. Read more…

Metalstock 2007

Metalstock 2007We were lucky enough for our visit home to coincide with Metalstock 2007 – Australia’s premier metal event and now in its third year. Leaves’ Eyes have been a favourite band of both Sarah and I for some time. We first saw them play at the Summer Breeze festival in Germany back in 2005, not long after their first album came out and we’ve been big fans ever since.

We’ve seen them play here in the UK a few times and every gig has been absolutely brilliant. Last night they were back in London and played probably the best show that we’ve seen yet to a sizeable crowd in Dingwall’s, Camden. Read more…

Jeff Martin - Kinsale
After having such a fantastic time in Bandon the night before, we knew we were in for another evening of great music as we drove north to Kinsale. This beautiful seaside town isn’t normally too busy outside of the tourist season, but there were plenty of music lovers out on this particular night to see Jeff Martin play at Swell, a local bar with a growing reputation for quality live music. On Saturday afternoon we arrived in Bandon, a small town just a few miles south-west of Cork. We’d been lucky enough to get a room at the beautiful Kilbrogan Guest House due to a late cancellation. Not only was Kilbrogan a beautiful and homely place to stay, it was also only 5 mins walk from De Barra – the pub where Jeff Martin would be playing later that evening. Read more…
